Reshaping the Workplace
If change is to happen, work cultures need to be more inclusive of women
by easing the re-entry process.
OVERVIEW
The percentage of women employed in the corporate sector has considerably gone up over the last few decades. However, it is seen that for a vast majority of these women, a career break is imminent. They are burdened to shoulder the impracticalities linked with shouldering domestic responsibilities with a full-time career. Once they are in a comparatively smoother phase with ref to their domestic engagements, the restlessness to return back to the mainstream workforce gains momentum for a majority of the women. It is at this phase the role of the industry towards these returnees becomes even more crucial and important. But it has been noticed that Indian Corporate sector, by and large, are still skeptical to extend opportunities to these women as a short or long term career option. These women form a huge talent resource that can be tapped for their experience and corporates have to take a lead and be more forthcoming in engaging these women. When these returnees are seriously supported by their professional network, it will help them break the shackles and speed up their returnship.
