Job and Career are two different concepts, career is derived from your passion, it is a long term plan, jobs are a part of your career; you can have a lot of jobs under different employers in different places that will make up your career. Women have to choose between having a career or a family. But for men it is not a choice, they’re expected to have a fully-fledged career and a family.

The Differentiating Starts Early - “Gender Biased Society is the Killer of Passionate Souls”

From an early age girls are told that there will come a time in their lives when they will have to put their family before their career; that they have to sacrifice their own dreams for the sake of their family and future of their kids. From a young age kids are told to engage in gender appropriate roles, for girls it is to learn household responsibilities, taking care of the family members and prepare to get a job; for boys it is to face the outside world and prepare for a career that would support them and their family in future.

Women are supposed to get a job till the time they don’t start a family, it is treated as a luxury and not a necessity; you must have heard people saying that, “oh, she just works to pass her time.” Or “once she starts a family she’ll leave her job”. I have a friend who is getting married and she has decided that she won’t try for promotion at her workplace because then she won’t have enough time for her family. She is okay with her husband having a job that takes him out of the city every month; she wants to be there waiting for him when he comes back. Because since an early age she has been taught to wait on her husband and family, if she won’t then she’ll be termed as selfish.
