Can We Talk?
While coming back from college, I saw a father and daughter duo walking by the lane where the daughter curiously popped up question after question and did not stop.
The conversation was so….
Daughter- Dad, why do you always instruct me to come home with my friends?
Father- So, that you can have company and obviously you are not bored alone..
Daughter- But I feel good walking alone sometimes while coming back home!
Father-umm, but it's always better to be with someone.
Daughter-Why so?
Father-Because it is a safe and right thing to do.
Daughter- hmmm okay dad.
How strange it is that parents cannot really tell their girl child to be so careful in every step they take since childhood. I could observe how the father got conscious while answering, truth is we all are afraid of the truth itself...That is what I realized throughout the conversation. I don’t know what I would have said if I were to answer these questions to a girl 10-year-old. I believe my answers would have been similar, it is really hard to say those hard words or harsh reality to a 10-year-old girl. But what is even hard is to make up those cover stories, real truth and the right guidance can come up in some other way as well, that is through your wisdom as being a parent to the girl child and protect their brain from the things society wants them to feed.
Now what hits is why it is important to answer all the questions your child asks and what impact our answers will create on them. Sometimes we kill the childlike behavior instead we become childish. The child is asking what they are feeling free to ask without any fabrications or what you will think or not, but we being the responsible ones become childish, which destroys the playful nature and comforts the child with a lie which sabotages her confidence and keeps her in constant conflict to ask or not ask even in future. So why it is important to ask for the girl child and why it is necessary for you to answer-
Asking today creates wonder tomorrow
If a girl is educated today she will be aware of the difference in what is given to her and how she is treated, is even right or not. If the question she has been asking since childhood has been answered correctly, the ratio of her being actively asking for her rights and worth increases even at the workplace.” The golden rule is if we asked for more and negotiated with more confidence, we would get more”. To get more means to get insight into every aspect of life.
Saves from wrong interpretations
Another important thing is when we don’t ask questions either way we get stuck. We may end up getting half the information or wrong guidance. Asking gives clarity to us and helps us reach the point where we become capable of helping other people around us. When we help our girl child to always ask, we answer their curiosity. Then it serves, similarly, when we ask, we get served in abundance, which serves all around us. In the future when the girl who was always encouraged to ask questions, feels independent enough to go for her decision instead of following anybody's path at the workplace.
As said by Eugene Ionesco “It is not the answer that enlightens, but the question”, it is the sign of prudence for women to stand up for themselves at the workplace and everywhere they feel they just need to ask for the raise or for the injustice done or anything that is meant to ask. Asking takes the route to new turns that takes you on a new journey of forming a new you, which is much stronger than the one who just didn’t bother asking.
If we make sure that our girl is not grasping the wrong, traditional, orthodox civilizational feedbacks and we replace them with more positive, confident as well as the vision that is farsighted which will strengthen and bring clarity to the concepts from starting, that will promote firm thinking pattern boosting her roots since childhood and being more opinionated in her approach, not settling for what is asked.
