Don't Be Afraid To Start Over Again!

An ambitious working woman, Geeta found herself stuck in a conundrum, driven by a deep desire to support her daughter’s needs, she had to take a sudden career break.
Geeta is a single mother to her 15-year-old daughter, currently studying in the 10th grade. Geeta always had a zealous approach towards her work and called it her ‘happy place. ‘Her work made her smile and kept her going. At the same time, she was a loving mother to her daughter.
She wanted to send her daughter abroad for higher studies. She wanted to provide her with all the comfort and support she could. For Geeta, to manage both the fronts - domestic and professional was becoming increasingly difficult, it was like chasing two rabbits and catching none. Her daughter needed her mother’s presence with all the tremendous pressure she was undergoing because of board exams being just around the corner and the complications caused by the hormonal changes that her daughter she was facing resulting in severe psychological stress. Geeta was under immense pressure as it was going beyond her abilities to manage both fronts.
After mindful deliberation, she decided to take a break of three years from work with the intention of making a comeback to the workforce by the time her daughter completed her 12th grade. She was delighted by the thought of being a pillar of strength to her daughter by staying at home full-time.
As time passed by Geeta started questioning her decision. She grew anxious about how she would manage to have financial stability whilst having no source of income. She felt purposeless whiling away all her time, having nothing productive to do. This breather, that she had taken started suffocating her. The only question daunting her constantly was, “Will I ever be capable enough to start working again.”
Here’s a message to Geeta:
You are not alone. Women more than men adjust their careers to balance their personal commitment. For women, at times, a career break is imminent. They are burdened with shouldering the impracticalities of managing domestic responsibilities with a full-time career.
Women tend to leave their work positions due to personal reasons at a very high rate. On average, we’re looking at sapping rates of 31% and it only goes higher as we move up the corporate ladder. Working women are twice as likely as their male counterparts to run the house, three times more likely to look after their children, and eight times more likely to take time off to look after an unwell child.
In a nutshell, the deeply gendered worlds of mother and fatherhood, irrespective of any work situation, continue to play out on a mass scale.
Someone said, "Don't be afraid to start over again." This time, you are not starting from scratch, you are starting from experience.
You must learn to trust yourself, your potential and your instinct with belief that there is a future waiting for you that is beyond what you might be able to grasp at this present moment.
